How Many of My Training Hours Count Toward an ICF Credential?

If you're navigating the path to becoming an ICF-accredited coach, it's important to understand how your training hours align with the International Coaching Federation's (ICF) credentialing requirements. iPEC’s Coach Training Program equips you with all the hours needed to meet or exceed these requirements.

ICF Credentialing Overview

The ICF recognizes three primary credentials: Associate Certified Coach (ACC), Professional Certified Coach (PCC), and Master Certified Coach (MCC). Each credential has specific education and coaching hour requirements. For the most accurate and up-to-date details, please visit the International Coaching Federation website.

When applying, for ACC credential applications choose Level 1/Level 2/ACTP Path. For PCC credential applications choose Level 2/ACTP Path

iPEC's Training Hours and ICF Requirements

iPEC's Coach Training Program exceeds the educational requirements for the ACC and PCC credentials:

  • 160 Training Hours: Upon completion of iPEC's program, you'll have 160 hours of coach-specific education. This exceeds the educational requirements for the ACC and PCC credentials.

  • Additional Hours for MCC: To apply for the MCC credential, 200 hours of coach-specific education are required. iPEC's Coach Training Program certification plus one COR.E Dynamics™ niche specific certification provides an additional 40 hours for a total of 200 hours.

  • Mentor Coaching Hours: iPEC is accredited as a Level 2 program. The mentor coaching you received as part of your training fulfills the ICF requirement for 10 hours of mentor coaching for both an ACC and PCC credential application when you are eligible to apply and meet all ICF requirements.

What About Peer Coaching, Mentor Coaching, and Other Activities?

Peer Coaching Hours:

  • 24 Peer Coaching Hours can be applied as pro bono coaching hours toward the coaching hour requirement for ICF certification.

Coaching Interviews

  • Coaching interviews may be counted toward unpaid coaching hours toward the ICF credentialing requirements.

ELI Debrief Hours

  • While coaching skills are utilized during the ELI debrief, it is not a coaching session since it's not following the client's agenda and is more informational than educational in nature.

Mentor Coaching Hours for MCC Application:

  • While mentor coaching hours completed during the iPEC program are included in your coach-specific education, applying for the MCC credential also requires 10 additional hours of mentor coaching with a coach who holds an MCC credential. For more information, refer to the ICF website's MCC credentialing process.
