Understanding the Mentor Coaching Program at iPEC

The Mentor Coaching Program is a cornerstone of the iPEC Coach Training Program, offering students a chance to refine their skills and build mastery of Core Energy Coaching. These six 30-minute sessions are a certification requirement and part of your coursework.

What is a Mentor Coach?

A Mentor Coach is a highly skilled professional dedicated to supporting your development as a coach. During your Mentor Coaching sessions, you will actively practice coaching your Mentor. Afterward, your Mentor will provide constructive feedback, highlighting strengths and opportunities for growth. These sessions are designed to:

  • Enhance your coaching proficiency.
  • Deepen your understanding and application of ICF Core Competencies.
  • Prepare you for the certification process and final exam.

Session Requirements and Timeline

You will complete six Mentor Coaching sessions throughout the Coach Training Program. To optimize your learning, sessions must be spaced at least four weeks (28 days) apart, following this recommended timeline:

  • Sessions 1 & 2: Ideally completed before Module II (at least one session should occur after conducting two peer coaching sessions).
  • Session 3: Must be completed after Module II.
  • Sessions 4 & 5: Typically completed after Module II.
  • Session 6: Must be completed after Module III.

While flexibility is allowed, all sessions must be completed within one year of Module III to avoid additional requirements and costs.

Receiving Your Mentor Coach Assignment

Students are assigned a Mentor Coach approximately three weeks after completing Module I. You’ll find your Mentor’s contact information and booking link here in the Hub.  Your Mentor will email you instructions on how to begin scheduling.

Recording Mentor Sessions

All Mentor Coaching sessions are recorded for iPEC faculty training and quality assurance purposes. Recordings are not shared with students due to the privacy of the Mentor Coach who is being coaches on their real-life topics.
