How to Add an SPF Record to Your Domain

Adding a sender policy framework for better email deliverability.

How to Add an SPF Record to Your Domain

Difficulty: Easy (5–10 minutes)

What is an SPF record?

An SPF record helps prove that emails sent from your business are legitimate.

Without one, some of your emails may end up in your customers' spam folders or may not be delivered at all.

The good news is that setting one up only takes a few minutes.

Before You Begin

You'll need two things:

  • Access to the account where you purchased your domain name (for example, GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, or Bluehost)
  • The SPF record we'll provide for you below

Not sure where your domain is managed?

  • Check the confirmation email from when you purchased your domain.
  • If someone built your website for you, they can usually tell you where it's managed.

Step 1: Sign in to Your Domain Account

Go to the website where you purchased your domain name and sign in.

Some common providers include:

  • GoDaddy
  • Namecheap
  • Cloudflare
  • Bluehost
  • Google Domains

Step 2: Open Your DNS Settings

After signing in, find your domain name and look for one of these options:

  • DNS
  • DNS Management
  • DNS Settings
  • Manage DNS

Don't worry if the wording is a little different—every company labels it slightly differently.

Can't find it?

Search Google for:

"[Your provider] DNS settings"

For example:

GoDaddy DNS settings

Step 3: Add a New TXT Record

Look for a button that says:

  • Add Record
  • Add New
  • Create Record

When asked what type of record you'd like to create, choose:

TXT

Then fill in the boxes like this:

Box Enter
Type TXT
Host or Name @ (or leave blank if your provider does this automatically)
Value, Content, or Points To Paste the SPF record we gave you
TTL Leave it at the default setting

Once everything is entered, click Save.

That's it!

Common SPF Records

If you aren't sure which SPF record to use, here are some common examples.

Email Provider SPF Record
Google Workspace (Gmail) v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all
Microsoft 365 (Outlook) v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com ~all
Zoho Mail v=spf1 include:zoho.com ~all
SendGrid v=spf1 include:sendgrid.net ~all
Mailchimp v=spf1 include:servers.mcsv.net ~all
Mailgun v=spf1 include:mailgun.org ~all
Amazon SES v=spf1 include:amazonses.com ~all
HubSpot v=spf1 include:_spf.hubspotemail.net ~all
Constant Contact v=spf1 include:spf.constantcontact.com ~all
Klaviyo v=spf1 include:_spf.klaviyomail.com ~all
GoDaddy Email v=spf1 include:secureserver.net ~all

What Happens Next?

After you save the record, your changes need time to spread across the internet.

This usually takes a few minutes, but sometimes it can take up to 24–48 hours.

You don't need to do anything else while you wait.

How Can I Tell if It Worked?

After waiting a little while, visit MXToolbox's SPF Check.

Enter your domain name (for example, mybusiness.com) and run the check.

If your SPF record appears, everything is set up correctly.

Why Is This Important?

Think of your domain like your home address.

An SPF record tells email providers:

"These are the only mail carriers allowed to deliver mail from my address."

Without it, scammers can pretend to send emails from your business.

Adding an SPF record helps:

  • Improve email delivery
  • Keep emails out of spam folders
  • Protect your business from impersonation
  • Build trust with email providers
